True to my word, I fell asleep and woke up again at six, a rare feat. Usually I would have woken up at Ten.
Except for my dream.
My dream was strange.
In the dream, the gnarled staff of the man in my journal had belonged to Mitch. And Mitch and Jordan were having a heated discussion based on the fact that Mitch wanted to take both Me and Ali to the dance but Jordan wanted to take Ali so didn't want Mitch to take both.
Utterly ridiculous but dreams often are.
I pulled out the rest of my journals and flipped through them, looking for more sketches. I only found one, a picture that mirrored the image of the woman who had spoken to me on the docks.
I reached for my cellphone and dialed Trisha's number.
Waiting.. Waiting..
"Hello?" said a sleepy and slightly staticy voice.
"Trisha?"
"Sam. Why are you calling me?" she muttered unhappily.
"Listen, Trisha, it's important." I urged.
"What kind of important?" she said reluctantly.
"Fourth of july urgent."
Her voice was suddenly awake. "Tell me," she said
"Listen, I was going through my journals. There's a picture of the woman who spoke to me that night, and of this other guy.. Um his name is confusing.. Dallina?"
"Dallino?" very worried.
"Yeah, that's it!" I said innocently.
Trisha's voice came hard, fast and breathy.
"Listen, Sam, I don't know why you have a picture of him but you have to tell me. NOW." she said, stern and anxious at the same time.
"Ummm he.. He kidnapped my twin sister when we were seven."
"Sam I'm SERIOUS!"
"No, so am I," I said quietly.
Silence.
"Okay, so he kidnapped your twin sister.. When you where seven." pencil lead scratched in the background.
"Yes, exactly. And I used to have dreams about him, until I was ten. And I had this sketch of him.. His eyes look so familiar."
"Probably just the dreams.." said Trisha faintly.
"Yeah," I agreed, "That's probably all."
Suddenly a knock at Trisha's door, and a "I have to go, bye!"
I sighed and stared at my phone. It was going to be a long spring break.
